Book By Its Cover

Just a quick note- if you didn’t see what happened yesterday in the comments section of Wednesday’s post you should check it out. Someone recognized someone in the yearbook I posted. It’s too funny.

Today’s book is a reprint of a 1961 children’s book. The story starts with someone holding a butterfly in their hands asking “What will you give me for my butterfly?” The other person answers: a wishbone. The first person says “What would I do with a wishbone?” and the second person answers “well, you could trade it for a kite with a tail…” And the story continues this way, trading one thing for another. The bartering get as far as trading a tower for an army, and the army for a small town. In the end when the final trade is for everything, person two says “Show me your butterfly.” And the last illustration shows the open hands and an escaping butterfly. Such a cute story about imagination. And the illustrations are really sweet too. You can get a copy here.

The colours and design are just gorgeous! The story sounds a little like that guy who recently started off with a giant paper clip and finally swapped it many times until he got a house! Awesome book!
