When I wrote about Bruno Munari a while back, Cat commented that there is another book artist, Katsumi Komagata, who I would love. She was right. After checking out his site, I ordered three of his books. This one Green to Green is about a cat sitting in a window that decides to jump out and see the world and who it greets along it’s way. Although this children’s book is all in Japanese, a sheet of paper is inserted in the back with the English translation. The book is stunning. The cover is die cut to show the layers of paper underneath, through a window. All the pages are cut to form a mountain but between each hides a die-cut animal. Each piece of paper is different, some are very textured or marbleized. I can see how Bruno’s work might have influenced his. You can order Katsumi’s books from his website here. (Unfortunately, I was informed I ordered the last copy of Green to Green. But Blue to Blue is very similar in it’s design and just as beautiful.)
