Book By Its Cover

Todd Oldham

Yesterday I checked out Powerhouse Arena for a possible book party/exhibition for The Exquisite Book. It’s an amazing space and I am hoping we can make it work. While I was there they were having a huge warehouse sale and books were marked 50% off or even less. There was a beautiful photo book selling for $1.50. If you’re in the DUMBO area you should check it out. I picked up a few books myself including this one, Todd Oldham’s Kid Made Modern. I’ve checked out this book before in the bookstore intrigued by the fun bright designs and really interesting craft projects. And since it was half off at this book sale, I figured it was time to take it home. The projects in the book are all inspired by famous modern designs of the mid-century: Alexander Girard, Alvin Lustig, Alexander Calder, Paul Rand, Charles and Ray Eames… So while creating the projects, your kid can learn a little bit about the aesthetic of each of these visionaries. Plus the book is so well designed and has these adorable cut paper illustrations throughout, adults will enjoy this too. I might have to make some Alexander Girard inspired spoons! Just bought this book for my sister whose children love to do crafts. I peeked through it and it looked like so much fun! There are crafts for both young and older children. Very nice book.
