M. Sasek

The walk home last night from an election party was so amazing. Is was as if it was New Year’s Eve. People were cheering in the streets and out windows. Cars were driving by holding down their horns. The city was so alive and happy. Last week was the New York city marathon and everyone ran right by my house. There has been a lot of cheering in the streets lately and I am feeling a lot of New York pride. So today I am going to share the old classic This is New York. It’s an all time favorite of mine because of Miroslav Sasek’s adorable illustrations. And if you are feeling pride for your own city, check out the entire “This is…” series including San Francisco, Rome, London and many more. These books were first published in the 1960s but have been republished and include updates in the back- instead of 24,000 elevators there are now 67,000 in the city. Get this book here and learn more about M. Sasek here.

Very cool book. I like that style, it reminds me of the 60’s. Of course I remember the Camel ad and the very big cars.

Yes!! Lots of NY pride lately. Last night was absolutely amazing, in the streets and on the subway. This is one of my favorite things about NYC; the bonding and happiness that occurs with complete strangers in such a jubilant manner. I’ve had a smile on my face all night and day!

We had an event in the city (SF) last year, and I was delighted to be able to give all of the children who attended (there were not many, maybe 6?) a copy of “This is San Francisco.” They’d come from out of town, with their parents. They loved it! How marvelous is it that the books still bring such joy…the definition of great art, yes?
