Carson Kressley

review by Jess Rosenkranz

This week is my very good friend Jess is guest blogging her favorite kids books. We have a new set-up here. Instead of the contributor’s bio being on every post now you can just click the link above with Jess’s name to see her more about her and what she does.

Julia said, “Jess, you should write about children’s books since you work at the toy company.” Hmmm. A quick review of my library revealed that many of my favorites were in fact children’s books. But not the regular kind, the kind that are apt to scar children for life. Hooray for children’s books!

Somewhere in between Queer Eye and his current show, How To Look Good Naked, Carson Kressley wrote this charming little book. It is a retelling of the ugly duckling story crossed with a little bit of rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, with really cute drawings of ponies. Teaching impressionable children about tolerance and acceptance (kind of like the lessons he teaches the ladies on his show), with the addition of the most important lesson of all, that true success comes only with a cross-category licensing program. I love the line quality and the way they toned the whole page so that Trumpet, the star pony stands out as bright white. You can buy it here.

I can’t believe that guy Carson wrote a book- and its actually really sweet. I wonder if he did storytime for the rest of the queer gang.I can just imagine them all sitting around crossed legged on the floor squealing. Those horse drawings are really adorable.

What a great idea to have a guest blogger sharing her favorite children’s books! I love kids’ books and often buy some for myself; this one is definitely going to make it to my shopping list. I love the humour and simplicity of those drawings.

such a cute book. i’m into children’s books too - for myself; no kids :p The art work reminds me of Tim the Tiny Horse by Harry Hill.
