Book By Its Cover

Luke Ramsey

It’s easy to find joy with a comic this nice looking. I am a big fan of Luke Ramsey’s insanely patterned drawings so a whole book of them is really a treat. The first half of the book is a comic starring a rabbit character (some know him as Smooch) as he goes on adventures looking for “inner peace”. Luke has apparently been drawing this character into his work for four years until 2007. From the artist statement in the book Luke says: “Smooch was never a persona of myself. He was a character created to learn about myself.” The rest of the book is artwork, short comics, patterns and photos- Smooch shows up in all of them somewhere. You can pick up a copy of this book right here, a signed edition of 350 that comes with a small silkscreen print. Also if you haven’t yet, check out Luke’s Islands Fold artist residency and publisher here.

Luke’s work is insane. My mate Alex Chiu did a couple of collabs over mail with him not too long ago and it was just insane to see his line work up close. you can see it here
