Book By Its Cover

Atak

I picked this book up at the Buenaventura Press table at MoCCA. Besides publishing their own books, Buenaventura Press distributes lots of foreign books you can’t get anywhere in the US. I can’t say I didn’t choose this book for the cover- how nice is that deer? Inside is an illustrated tour around a novelty shop run by shopkeeper Kub. Strange masks, postcards and figurines are some of the items for sale. I really like how the color is applied in these vintage feeling illustrations- in dots, blotches and pattern. It gives so much depth to the just two color illustrations. The book seems to be sold out on Buenaventura’s site but I’m sure you can contact them to have it restocked. ore on the artist Atak here.

Wow… I recognized the work of german artist ATAK, it is so cool that you show him here.

I think his website is entertaining and worth a look: http://www.fcatak.de (english)
There is also a very nice animated movie: his brother Martin Barber and him made this beautiful movieclip for the band Monoland. (http://www.fcatak.de/shows11.htm)

He publishes some books at the very cool german publisher “Reprodukt” where he also presents “Alice” a very lovely comic… (http://www.reprodukt.com/product_info.php?products_id=1)

This is gorgeous! It reminds me of the ads in the back of comic books, rubber stamps and novelty lick and stick seals. I can almost taste the glue.
