I love the way Australian artist Nicolas Mahler draws. The characters in this comic are all nose. No eyes or mouths just long noses. They are almost like aliens. But the story is so easy to relate to that these weird characters become your best friends while you read. The main character the Lone Racer is kind of depressed. He used to be the best racer and win all the races but now he loses everytime. He has a wife in the hospital and hangs out at Bar Juanjo. Then his friend convinces him to rob a bank and then chickens out at the last moment. Some other things happen and then he tries racing again. I don’t want to tell you too much since you definitely should pick up a copy of this comic. It surprised me that this comic was so good. I picked it up at the Top Shelf table at the MoCCA Art Festival because of the drawings. But the story just happened to be really well written too. The simple sentences are told from the Lone Racer’s point of view which really helps develop his character really well. I finished the comic with a smile wishing I could read more. You can get a copy here or learn more about Nicolas here.
