Chuck Forsman

This comic came in the mail recently and I was really impressed. It’s well drawn and the story is quite strange and interesting– a depressed man who’s lady just left him goes into a bathroom stall where his conscience (a evil looking man with very pointy features) confronts him and has his bull-men (walking, talking bulls in clothes) take the sad guy away in a body bag. And that’s just the very beginning. The story introduces a slew of related characters stuck in weird situations and leaves me hoping the next issue comes out real soon so I can see what this is all about. A note came with the comic from the author/artist Chuck Forsman which mentions he’s a student at CCS. I’m thinking- what school is that because boy this guy is good! So I do a little research and find The Center for Cartoon Studies- a two year college in drawing comics. I must be way out of the loop because this is the first time I’ve heard of this Vermont based “cartoon college” co-founded by cartoonist James Strum. How amazing would it be to take intensive full time classes focusing only on sequential art with visiting faculty Chris Ware, Art Spiegelman, James Kochalka or Craig Thompson? Check out this documentary teaser about the school here and check out more from aspiring Chuck Forsman on his blog here. Thanks Chuck!

Good stuff. Just wondered if perhaps you could do a peek into Craig Thompson’s sketchbooks in the future? He sometimes posts pages on his blog and they’re fantastic.

hmm that would be cool. I’ll write him an email and see if he’d be interested.
