Book By Its Cover

Esther Pearl Watson

I’ve written about Esther Pearl Watson’s incredibly hilarious Unloveable comics here. Read this post to find out what it’s all about if you missed it. Now, finally, the series has been collected into a big anthologypublished by Fantagraphics. I already have them all in their original form but still couldn’t resist getting this really thick little hardcover. Maybe it was the sparkly glitter on the front cover. If you don’t own any of these comics yet, for just a little over $15 dollars you can have them all. Totally worth it! You will definitely be amused. Pick up a copy here.

I freaked when I heard this was coming out, and then when I realized it was coming out like that very second. Sadly it took 3 months to ship, but it was so worth it!

I love Unlovable so much! I interviewed Esther for a story for The Artist’s Magazine, and she was just as cool as I’d hoped. :)

This book is a total flashback to the 80s, including the bright blue glitter sparkles on the cover. I was lucky enough to attend the launch party here in Seattle – Esther was so sweet. She not only signed everyone’s books, but she also drew in them too!

The book is based on a journal Esther and her husband found in a gas station bathroom on the way to Las Vegas.

Exactly! I thought it was Linda Berry at first glance.
