This book isn’t the kind of book I usually post- it’s not a picture book at all (although it is very well designed by Sarah Meyer). But I thought it was important to share because I know a lot of people who read this blog are creatives and this book is full of great information about running your own creative business (stationery, pottery, art prints, etc). There’s also some great interviews and tips from some of my idols in the field- Jill Bliss, Jonathan Adler, Rena Tom and Grace Bonney. I certainly need help with the business side of my company- I mean how are we supposed to know any of this? This book answered a lot of the questions I’ve had about things like taxes, legal structure, copyrighting, trade shows, pricing for wholesale and retail and publicizing. It’s a great little handbook to have around for referencing. Meg Mateo Ilasco, the author, is the woman behind the great blog Designer’s Library which I frequent. She also has a housewares and gift company- check out these pretty journals you can buy from her shop. Pick up a copy of this book here.
