Japanese Postcard Book Week This postcard book is so beautiful. The front is a short story in paintings and pencil drawings by Minae Kato of a day in the life two sisters who are fashion designers. The back is a Kaori Kumura postcard set of the textile designs that appear on the dresses in the illustrations. Both sections are equally stunning from the loose pencil line drawings and textured painting in the front section to the clean graphic designs with perfect color palettes in the second section. Last Gasp used to sell this book but it seems to be sold out. It’s published by Pie Books. If you like this book, there’s also A Postcard Book of Japanese Colors by Kaori Kumara that is in the same style as the second half of this book. Each image in that book is based on traditional colors of Japan at different times in history. The back explains the meaning of each- also a Pie Book. (But I do remember first seeing that book at Rare Device so it may be easier to find.) |
