(Sorry I have to plug myself for one second- I have a new line of wallpapers with Hygge & West that just launched and you could check out here. That’s it. Thank you. Happy Thanksgiving!) I checked out the Picturebox mega-sale this weekend and walked home with my arms full. Then I found a bookshelf on the street and my piling up problem was solved. It was a good day. Anyway, this book, For the Love of Vinyl, is one of their newest titles. It’s all about the the design company Hipgnosis, headed by Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey Powell, who designed some of the most famous rock and roll album covers for bands like Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, AC/DC and Genesis. I am kind of a big Led Zeppelin fan so I was excited to read the essay from the designers about what it was like coming up with the idea for the cover of Houses of the Holy. For each album, the designers give personal accounts about what it was like working with the bands and why they decided on the themes they did. It’s pretty interesting especially if you are a rock and roll fan. There’s also a few essays from musicians like Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason and an essay from Paula Scher on her favorite covers. You can get a copy of this book here. |
