The Hand Drawn Map Association is an ongoing website project to archive user submitted handdrawn maps and other interesting diagrams. The association was created by Philadelphia based artist Kris Harzinski who has collected his favorite maps from the collection to make this book. There are all kinds of maps in this book from the quick “Visit me” directional map to the more intriguing “I heard you broke up with your girlfriend”, here’s how to find me, map. There’s also found maps, fictional maps, art maps and more. These maps are personal and give brief glimpses into the lives of their creators. Alongside the image of them is a brief description about why it was created. I love that at the time they were drawn, these were maps useful and meant to explain something. But now these saved maps become records of a moment passed. Get a copy here.
Lookng through this book reminded me of Jenny Volvovski’s amazing sketchbook I posted a while back.
