Good Magazine and Starbucks

review by Chad Kouri

A few months ago I got a great surprise when walking into Starbucks. This surprise made me go there at least once a week for 3 months (which I guess wasn’t that out of the ordinary). The Good Sheet is a weekly breakdown of important issues to help make sense of the world around us and is exclusively available at Starbucks. With the help of my roommate I have collected issues 001-011 and every one of them is more impressive than its predecessor. In Good Magazine fashion, every issue is very meticulously designed. The format is a large piece of newsprint (I have been a sucker for other one-sheet newsprint pieces this year) folded twice into a 6″x6″ handout which folds down one more time by the recipient and fits perfectly in your pocket! Hence the middle crease in every issue I have. These fancy little pluggers once again prove that Good Magazine has info graphics completely locked down. I don’t even want to attempt to do my own anymore! My only question is, when is Nicolas Feltron going to team up with Good Magazine?!

Luckily you don’t have to leave the house to get these beauties. You can download them right here!

Oh, and sorry for the funny crops. It is kind of difficult to show these pieces at the small image size.

I was so excited when I first saw these. I agree, the design is incredibly beautiful. In fact, I keep expecting them to be funny because they remind me a little of Spy magazine. I actually wish they nerded out a little more and showed even more groupings of data for the reader to analyze. As I understand it, these are part of a Starbucks push to encourage conversation and discourse in their stores. Even more data for us to parse as we choose could lead to some awesome conversations.

I love the GOOD sheets, and I was sad to see the series end. I posted about all of them over at my blog. I saved all the ones I could pick up—no idea what I will actually do with them but I couldn’t bear to throw them in the recycling bin! And I agree, Feltron would be PERFECT for a GOOD collaboration. Hopefully they get that going!

I’m glad to see you post these. I’ve picked them up once or twice and was pretty amazed at the info graphics. I agree, I also thought they were going to be funny.
