Sketchbook Week
This week I am going to post only about sketchbooks. I love getting glimpses into the minds of artist’s through their sketchbooks. It’s so personal and makes you aware of all the thinking and learning they are constantly doing. Graphic magazine’s issue 10 focuses on over twenty artist’s diaries, notebooks and sketchbooks. There are big photos on each artist with bios and interviews about their work and their books. Some of the books are really polished paintings or drawings and some are just piles of reciepts and calendar pages with tiny doodles- both equally satisfying to see. The book has a good mix of artists with a lot of people I haven’t heard of before that I will now look into. There’s also a couple of interesting articles- one from Stefan Sagmeister about the year he decided to not do any work for clients (I can’t wait till I take that year) and another with illustrator Sara Fanelli, who’s work I love. I picked up a copy of this book from the New Museum bookstore but you can also get it here.
