This book came just at the right time for me. I have decided to do the next logical expansion to this blog which is to start producing books! Book By Its Cover Press (BBIC Press) will be publishing monographs of artists and will be taking you through the process. The first artist I am publishing is Lauren Nassef. It will be small (6.5×9) book of approximately 100 of her drawings. I think her work is incredible and am happy to be able to help her share it with the world. I especially like her drawings as a collection, as seen on her drawing a day blog, and think a book would be the perfect way to display it. In the next few weeks (or months more likely) I will take you through our steps of producing the book start to finish including getting quotes from printers, laying out her book, picking a cover and title, and all the printing steps. And check out Lauren’s work on her site here. She has just launched an online shop where you can purchase original drawings. The book below answers many of the questions I was wondering about getting started like how you get an ISBN number, what must be on your copyright page, laying out the book in the correct order, and the best ways to distribute your book. Also if you are interested in making your book by hand, there are some binding and printing techniques. Get a copy here. Stay tuned for more on BBIC Press coming soon! ps. Another quick mention (some of you know already) my ALSO partners and I are in the process of working on a different exciting book project with Chronicle Books which I will tell you more about next week! |
