The graduating class this year is going to have a very tough time finding work. I can’t imagine coming into the professional world at a time like this. They are going to need all the help they can get. That’s why this book couldn’t have been published at a better time. Dress Code, the design company headed by Andre Andreev and G. Dan Covert, has written a book to share their experiences in becoming graphic designers. Starting as far back as high school, they’ve recorded personal anecdotes and the things they’ve learned about design along the way all the way up to starting their own company. Personally I was most interested in reading about right after college when they both took on jobs for MTV. I’ve never worked a 9 to 5 design job at a major corporation so I was intrigued to read about those challenges and success stories. The book has a lot of their work scattered throughout and essays by established designers. Andre and Dan are devoted to the cause of helping young designers. Besides writing this book, they are also teaching classes at Pratt. They have created a site for students with many resources to get you started in the field of design which you can check out right here. Also they are answering your questions right here. This book comes out in March- find out more about getting a copy and check out a preview right here.
