Book By Its Cover

I went to the Jasper John: Gray show at the Met last week and it was truly very gray. It made me miss color. And made me re-visit my only (why don’t I have this one?) Rauschenberg book when I got home. It’s a wonderful book of only his posters which are just as amazing unique collage as everything else he does. Most of the posters were made to advertise his shows but a couple are for other various cultural events- symphonies, dance shows, film festivals. Each is exciting with bright spots of pattern and color, photo transfers, fabric swatches, ripped papers and his scrawled writing. I’m a big fan of using this book as design reference. You can get a copy right here.

I’ve never seen this Raushenberg book, but it looks like one I’d love to have. It’s always so great to see book layouts that give a full, beautifully printed page for each piece.

It is a beautiful book, thanks for presenting it so nicely. I have to comment that his name is misspelled in your posting title.

Rauschenberg is just amazing and I love everything he makes. We saw a show of his work a couple of years ago (at the Met I think) and it made me love him even more. He’s truly a genius. Thanks for sharing this book!
