Book By Its Cover

Over the last few years letterpress printing has had a major comeback. More and more card and invitation companies are springing up offering the traditional method of making plates and running them through a press. There is definitely something special about the tactile quality of letterpress- being able to you run your fingers over a card and feel that indent. This new book pays tribute to all of these new companies who have revived the traditional methods and created beautiful paper products from greeting cards to posters to book covers. The book shows samples from each company and tells exactly how the piece was created- polymer plate or typeset, what kind of press etc. All of my favorite companies are featured like Linda & Harriet, Hammerpress, Good on Paper, Pancake & Franks and of course Hello! Lucky who I have a line of letterpress cards with. Pick up a copy of this book here or pre-order the American version here

I’m happy that letterpress finds application today! :) I wish people today learn to appreciate more products that contain this special sensitivity…

Thanks for reminding me! I saw this book while I was in Europe this Summer…but it was insanely expensive there. The amazon price is much more do-able.

I agree that there’s something great about the process of production. Things like screen-printing and letterpress hold a special place in a designers world because of the tedious work that seems to pay off in the end when you can feel that indent of the letter form. The magic of letterpress and screen printing.

I looooove letter press and I took a course in it earlier this year. I just wish it wasn’t so expensive to do. And hard to find a machine to do it on.
