Book By Its Cover

7.12.10

I’ve noticed a lot of publisher’s have been making fancy editions of old classics. Probably the most popular being the Penguin series with it’s fabric patterned covers. And those are quite beautiful, especially stacked together. They can basically just act as decoration to any room. But then I was sent White’s Fine Editions and they just blew the Penguin editions out of the water. I was sent Treasure Island and Sherlock Holmes- two books I will probably never get around to reading. That’s fine with me though because I could just stare at these cover wraps all day and be happy. The series was created by former Penguin Books designer David Pearson and his new publishing house White’s Books. The books are printed using brass printing blocks and printed onto cloth covers, illustrated by artists like BBIC favorite Joe McLaren and Petra Borner. You can buy these editions on amazon here.

Awesome. I used to read adventure and mystery books when I was a girl. Love the detailed art!

They are truly gorgeous. So far I’ve gotten the Sherlock Holmes collection, the christmas collection (dickens) and Wuthering Heights. The paper quality and binding is superior to the penguins which I have a lot of as well, and the type and layout is beautiful as well. Can’t wait to get more.
