Book By Its Cover

Michael Brehm

Artist Michael Brehm sent over a copy of his book of portraits, Alter Ego, the other day and I needed to share it. Most of the portraits in the book are these weird and grotesque faces made from collaging different strips of photos of people’s faces together. They are fun to look at and to imagine as real people. Some of the portraits look like people you might see on the subway and others look like complete monsters. There are also some drawn portraits which are equally interesting. They remind me a little bit of Raymond Pettibon’s work. This book was selected by AIGA for its 50 books/50 covers exhibition. You can see more of Michael’s work here. He has an extensive website with tons of drawings, illustrations and comics to look through. I especially like the nuns in the graduation portraits he did. You can pick up a copy of this book here.
