He's like the Google Maps of another time. It's interesting how they're drawn from a fly-over point of view, or how you see landscapes as if from a hill. That seems to be why these are so nice to take in, because even though they're abstracted, they're not from directly above. They become patterns but are still familiar as landscapes.
