Jenni Rope

In this book, Jenni Rope shares images of works in progress, her studio, inspirations and her finished pieces made for the touring exhibition My Forest. Jenni has a spectacular color sense and I am always impressed with her texture. She cuts interesting shapes out of pieces of painted papers and arranges them to create compositions. From part of the text at the beginning of the book: “…this forest appears as an abstract landscape of emotions and wonders, not necessarily enchanted or frightening though, the scale zooms in and out, semi-man-made structures stand next to a black cat inspecting the ants.
The forest is not static, everything is in a constant state of flux- growing, rising, falling, decomposing.”

Thanks for sharing this. I do work with cut paper that I’ve painted, and this is great inspiration!

That animation was fantastic! She has a beautifully weird striped down futurism seemingly at odds with the rough hand-made objects she works with, but the result is stirring. Thanks for sharing this Jules!
