I learned about Neil Farber a long time ago at The Royal Art Lodge show at The Drawing Center, the same day I learned about Marcel Dzama. Marcel kind of stole the spotlight for me and I kept following his work somewhat obsessively. I have many of The Royal Art Lodge and The Royal Family books but I was pleased to find a book of only Neil’s work. Now I can appreciate his paintings without always flipping back to Marcel’s work to drool. The book is a limited edition of 1000 and was put out by the Richard Heller Gallery. His drawings style is similar to something you would find in a children’s book but the paintings are more dark. Lots of people seem to be falling into flames or drowning in waves in one image, vampires in suits fill a page in another. Sometimes the heads of the characters are made of acrylic medium and then the bodies and everything else is done in ink. The paintings are somewhat humorous which I think is always a good way for art to be. You can purchase this book here or see more of Neil’s works here.
