James Jean has just come out with another beautiful book, Rift, you should definitely add to your collection. The book was first conceived of as an idea for a postcard book but ultimately Chronicle Books decided it would work best as an art book because its super unique structure. The book is still approximately postcard size but folds out in a long accordion. In these pages spans two long landscapes broken up by other smaller paintings. The way it’s arranged, you can fold pages different ways to reveal more or less parts of the bigger paintings. The back has a similar structure but with pencil drawings. It’s hard to explain, and that’s why James has made this cool video showing how the book works. Jame’s work always impresses me, he has such skill mixed with incredible imagination.
