Street Artist’s Week
This book chronicles the exhibition of the same name by artists Twist (Barry McGee), Espo (Steve Powers) and Reas (Todd James). In 2000, they recreated an urban street inside of Deitch Projects (and then recreated it for the Venice Biennale) with everything from a liquor store to a check cashing place. There was even turned over trucks full of graffiti. Some of it was taken from the streets- discarded signs and storefront pieces- and the rest they created, including tons of signs, graffiti tags, and murals. It was pretty incredible- you can see tons of photos of it here. This book is full of pictures from that show and more. It’s full color and full bleeds of the three artists work plus many photos of the artists while working- on the streets or in the galleries. I’ve been a fan of Barry’s for a while now and have quite a few books of his work which I will post about sometime soon. But this book is one of my favorites because it includes Espo and Reas who also do amazing work. You can pick up a copy of this book here.

I never can make my mind up about McGee’s stuff. I always feel like I would be blown away if I saw it on the street but in a gallery it comes off as awkward and stilted. Nevertheless, I could see it making an solid impression in a book form. Just the cover of this book is impressive.
