Book By Its Cover

Anna Virtanen and more

A really interesting book came in the mail all the way from Finland yesterday. Six animators/ illustrators/ artists (Ami Lindholm, Elina Minn, Alex Brixell & Teresa Mattas, Malin Rosenquist, and Anna Virtanen) made up nine sentences. Then they each illustrated each of the nine sentences. The concept is simple but shows how artists can all interpret the same thing so differently. I really enjoyed all of the artists work in this book and found it really intriguing seeing what they each came up with for each sentence. Some were more literal while others made abstract work that evoked just the feeling of the sentence. You can learn more about these artists here and here. You can purchase this book here.

All of the images with this post are illustrations of the sentence (phrase?): “Sunglasses on the table, the golden years.”
