Cody Hudson

review by Chad Kouri

I am so pleased to welcome Chad Kouri this week as a guest blogger. If you don’t remember Chad check out his sketchbooks right here (the most commented post of ‘08!), his blog here, his website here and more about him here. Thanks so much Chad!

I figured I would start my week-o-reviews with my favorite book of the year. No, not “How to Talk to Girls” by nine-year-old Alec Greven. “Save My Life” gives a brilliant look into the versatile style of Cody Hudson. I have been craving a printed achieve of Cody’s work in all it’s wonder for years and this year my wish came true.

I have no complaints about this book overall. The minimal cover design and color palette. The intro by Ed Marszewski. And there isn’t any copy in the entire book besides the intro and a brief CV and credit list in the back. All printed on a nice beefy matte paper stock. This dyslexic, A.D.D. ridden book lover couldn’t ask for more!

One thing I really appreciate about Cody’s work is that he doesn’t restrict himself to one specific style. It’s almost as if he does an extremely large series of works in one style and then flawlessly changes to the next style. You would think that working this way would make a person a jack of all trades and master of none, but not Mr. Hudson. Every different aesthetic he chooses to use is extremely well thought out and articulate. Bravo! Bravo! Encore?! Damn I hope so.

Pick it up at Quimby’s
