This book came all the way from Germany to arrive in my mailbox. It’s a “drawing journey” by designer and illustrator Antje Herzog. This book chronicles her travels for inspiration- from Istanbul, Dubai, Paris, New Zealand, Thailand, Gambodia, India, and Sweden. She has really gotten around! The book has delicate pencil sketches of architecture, a ten day love-story comic she had in Istanbul, some really amazing cross-hatched drawings of scenery and a beautiful handdrawn map. I love that she used so many different mediums and it’s really interesting how she mixes them on a page- a softly drawn pastel pink tropical bird sits on a background of graphic black and white surroundings full of pattern. The book also comes with a poster of one of the drawings- where sheep become clouds in an M.C. Escher-ish way. You can learn more about Antje right here and pick up a copy of the book here.
