by Edizioni Almenodue

Book artist Angela Liguori wrote to tell me about the press she and her friend Silvana started back in 1998. Although Silvana is located in Rome, Italy and Angela now lives in Brookline, Mass., they partner together across continents to produce Edizioni Almenodue(which translates to mean “Press of Atleast Two.”) They collaborate with different illustrators, calligraphers, papermakers, type designers and translators often never meeting them in person. They trade them copies of the completed editions for their work on the books. Their books are printed in Italy in a family-owned letterpress and offset printshop. This book Insectionary is a book of poems by Elio Pecora and illustrations by Fabian Negrin. I have the translated version- the original, Insecttario, is in Italian. This accordian book is offset printed and uses the typeface Sator designed by Sumner Stone of Stone Type Foundry which was used for the first time in this book. I am probably missing out on the poem having the translated version but it’s very sweet regardless. Each stanzas features a different bug with a beautiful four color illustration underneath it. Check out Angela’s website to see more. She also makes invitations, blank books and calendars.
