Book By Its Cover

Mike Perry

I am excited that I can finally share Mike Perry’s zine he made for the Design by the Book project. He and I and three other artists were involved in this collaboration organized by Design Sponge and the New York Public Library. Each of us made a new project inspired by books we found at the library and the process was chronicled in a series of web episodes which you can watch here. Mike looked at books on optical illusions, children’s books on space and typography books at the library and decided to make this zine. He photocopied pages from the books collaging his own drawings and patterns with them. The zine is made of black and white pages with fun inserts of bright colored pages in between. He made a big edition of these and gave out the first fifty copies for free at the Design by the Book party. You’ll be able to buy this soon from his site here.

This is such a cool project. I am so jealous! This makes me want to make my own book, which I know won’t be nearly as cool, but would still be fun.
