This book is one of my favorites. As Liz’s books often are, it’s tiny. The brown envelope is about 2 and a half inches wide and holds a little silkscreened accordian book. It’s a very short story told in first person about a bike-riding postman’s son who throws love letters over the hedge to the narrator. It’s a really sweet story but it’s Liz’s attention to the details that makes this book so good. It’s silkscreened in four colors back and front and the hedges have the cutest leaf pattern. I like how the hedge level stays the same from back to front like we are really seeing both sides. The boy is postioned after page and page of hedge and really cropped nicely. The text is printed just big enough to be readable and the front and back edge of the book have been cut to the shape of the hedges. On the little envelope is a picture of a stamp and the title where the address would go. Liz’s books are always nice objects as well as great books- remember Grandma Clock- I posted a while back. I am always excited to see what Liz is up to next. She always has the workings of some new project hiding in her bag whenever I see her. You can see more of Liz’s work here or contact her here. ps. check out this post at Cartoon Brew about this bookstore in Paris. drool drool. pss. I just found out coincidentally Liz part of the Lower East Side Printshop open studio and fall exhibition TONIGHT 6-9! Here’s the address if you are in the NYC area-307 west 36th street and 8th avenue, 6th floor (once you’re inside, take the far elevators on the north side of the building.)
