Book By Its Cover

Mel Kadel

This may be one of my best purchases at the book fair this past weekend (from the Cinders gallery table). It’s a little handmade book of work by Mel Kadel, who’s quickly becomming one of my new favorite artists. Each page has been tea(or coffee?) stained giving the paper a nice golden brown color and uneven texture. The images are so pretty with Mel’s same woman character in some sort of predicament- tangled in thin string-like colored lines, or being sucked into a sea of patterned blobs. The cover of the book is silkscreened and it is an edition of 100. You can see more of Mel’s work here, read an interview here and pick up a copy of this book here.
