Book By Its Cover

Jess Rosenkranz

I officially met Jess(even though we spend 4 years in college together with all of the same friends) when she hired me to make some patterns for My Little Pony. She is the brains and creative touch behind much of Hasbro’s little girl toys. She helps decide what goes on the ponies’ rumps. What could be better than that? But somehow between all that sparkle and rainbows, she finds time to make her own little books which she sells in various little shops and fairs. They are all so perfectly made and most of them have some sort of hand-painted element aside from their silkscreened end pages and cover. My favorite is a book called S is for Salvation. It’s an alphabet book of clothes rescued from the Salvation Army to save people from ever having to wear them. The book is actually like a deck of cards and comes in a neat fitted box with a beautiful patterned interior. Each card has a swatch of fabric for each letter of the alphabet. On the card is also a drawing of the garment it came from. You can see why these clothes were rescued. I love the M is for monkeys sweatpants or the S is for snakeskin button down. Jess has some other quirky fun books too like Chicken Story or 204 Power Street. You can order them from her site here.

What a cool idea, I bet it makes a great texture book. I love books in general but anything extra in books is so cool.
