I felt like sharing something from the ole rare collection today. I keep this zine in plastic, that’s how special it is. It’s a collaboration between Barry McGee and Andrew Jeffrey Wright from November 2002. The zine was made on the occasion of a Barry McGee show at Lump Gallery in Raleigh, NC. Each one of these is handmade and slightly different. I know because I remember the day my friend Matt and I bought it from Deitch Projects. When we got outside and started flipping through it we realized we had at least two pages that were different from one another. I had an original drawing by Barry on one page and he had a “hello my name is” tagged Twist sticker on his. We were very excited. The rest of the zine did not disappoint either. It’s full of silkscreened drawings and games played by guest artists including Clare Rojas, Thom Lessner and Isaac Lin. In the middle is also a big foldout screen print. I think finding one of these to buy would be pretty hard considering they made only 100 (and I am definitely not selling mine). But there are a ton of amazing similar zines by AJW out there and books of Barry’s work.
