Book By Its Cover

Icecreamlandia

This is a small handmade envelope with a gold wax seal and ribbon, holding 12 prints plus a title page. The fronts of the prints are xeroxed drawings and the backs are two color silkscreens of a pattern. All the drawings are different dramatic scenes where it seems someone is about to get killed or has just been killed- hence the title. The scenes in the drawings all seem to take place in the olden days- mostly Victorian times but then they may have a modern element like a flamingo lamp mixed in. Some are very grotesque- vultures are pulling out the intestines of a dead man in his car. Others are just strange, a woman is talking on the phone but scissors are about to cut the cord. I like to imagine how these character’s got in these situations, how they died exactly or how they will die in the next few moments. It’s kind of like playing a murder mystery game. The creators behind this strange book are two artists Eve and Josh also known as Icecreamlandia. I met them at MoCCA festival where they were selling all kids of handmade books and comics. You can learn more about them here and even purchase books from their site.
