Book By Its Cover

Laurie Rosenwald

On the back Laurie Rosenwald’s new book it says: ” If you’ve ever felt that you don’t deserve bottled water, this book is for you. If you’re a vegetarian but you eat meat, this book is for you. If you’ve ever gotten kicked out of yoga, this book is for you…” Check on the first two for me. I’ve never been kicked out of yoga, but I have been told to “Shhhh!” This is really supposed to be “an inappropriate book for young ladies” but I can surely still relate to all the stories about embarrassing situations, feeling fat, and spooning your cats (except in my case it would be my dog Rudy). With all the garbage teenagers are bombarded with on newsstands and television, this sure is a fresh breath of air. Since I am totally smitten with it now at 28, I can only imagine if I was 15, it would have been my ultimate favorite. A lot of my attraction to this book comes from the crazy layouts of text and images and Laurie’s hilarious collage illustrations. Made from a variety of scraps of paper and crayon drawings, these illustrations are so fun and pop up throughout the book. Inspire your teenager with this book available here and learn more about Laurie’s work here.

I gave this book to my 50 year old friend and her 13 year old daughter for them both to share, they loved it.

no kidding! finally, i have some…blogging helped to boost it, but at first it was like doing naked yoga on the white house lawn…without a tan.

yep, junior high, where i learned to count lockers on my way to science class…just so i could pretend i didn’t need glasses.

great title!

This looks amazing. I want to order it for the bookstore where I work, but which section would it fall into? Art? Gender issues? A wide catch-all like Young Adult Nonfiction?
Thank you!

Finally! I think young girls need more of these sort of books what with the rubbish on television and magazines telling them how they should look and act.
Bravo Ms Rosenwald!
