Book By Its Cover

Jordi and Montserrat Codina

Jordi and Montserrat Codina, a brother and sister working in Barcelona, sent over their first illustrated book. “K, is a short illustrated story based on Kafka´s vision about his own childhood and art. In this case, specifically about writing, about Literature: his only place of true freedom.” The book is a beautiful small hardcover and has delicate drawings throughout. The text is in Spanish so I can’t understand much of it but the images are enough to keep me intrigued. They are done is something soft- a pencil or charcoal and I love the slight smudging that is happening. Both Jordi and Montserrat have a background in textiles which I thought was interesting. You can buy this book in a few different places: here, here or here.

Hi Julia,

Your books are such an inspiration. You are my first serious reference site for a project that will entail hand making a silk screened book. I am so excited to get ideas about binding etc and seeing other books that offer inspiration. Bravo!
