So last night I went to the preview night of Printed Matter’s second annual NY Art Book Fair. Boy was it hot- literally. There was no air-conditioning and for some reason I had chosen to wear a corduroy dress. I was dripping sweat the entire time. Other than that the fair was amazing. Two floors full of beautiful books from big thick glossy ones to tiny handmade zines. I started upstairs with the smaller publishers and actually never made it downstairs to the fancy big publishing houses. There was just so much to see that I definitely have to go back for a part two this weekend. Highlights for me last night were getting to meet the Nieves people- they were very sweet and have awesome stuff(their picture is on the home page), meeting Luke Ramsey and Angela Conley of Islands Fold, and learning more about Purgatory Pie Press, which I knew very little about. Esther K. Smith of Purgatory Pie Press is coming out with a new book soon that I think you are all going to love called How to Make Books- all about folding, stitching and creating handmade books. It looks amazing with tons of examples. You can pre-order now but it won’t be out until November. And I should mention, if you are not a New Yorker- coming up is 215 Festival in Philadelphia,The Sixth Annual West Hollywood Book fair and Stumptown Comics Fest in Portland. Hope you are all close to one of these cities. So here’s some pictures of the event below– left-artists Asher Penn and Liz Zanis, right- artist Edie Fake of Gaylord Phoenix
