Back in October of last year I posted a book sent to me from Finland from artist Anna Emilia Laitinen. Today I am sharing her sketchbooks. I love the sketchbooks as objects themselves- she binds them herself from found and recycled papers and sometimes even the light, fragile paper used for wrapping laundry. Anna says “There is nice patterns of life in used paper and variety in quality makes it interesting to work on different materials.” Inside her sketchbooks are delicate drawings mostly of natural environments. Here is what she says about her sketchbooks- “I use sketchbook pretty seldom, usually I sketch straightly on a sheet of paper and then collect the best ones to be glued in the book. I plan more of the main theme of a series of work in my books than an individual work. I used only ink in the beginning, but then changed to ball pen called Ballograf, and even pencil and color pencils. In the end the books look torn apart, as I have taken pages out and glued or taped some new ones along. Binding of the book comes undone.” Anna has been studying graphic design for five years in Finland and Iceland. To see more of her work check out her site right here.
