Katy’s paintings tell almost eerie stories of Horned Maidens, Totem Dancers and Crystal Magic- all of which are titles of her recent paintings. She says in her bio that her work is “the result of too many fantasy films during her childhood along with a love of all things ‘folky’.” I like imagining more about the rituals her characters take place in, where masked naked woman cut blood from their arms and spill it into the cups of other waiting hooded beings. Her work definitely seems influenced by a Native American aesthetic with a color palette of browns, ochres, and maroons and tons of beautiful tiny patterns. I recently bought a pencil drawing of Katy’s I feel in love with immediately. Woman are often quilting and sewing together in her work and I just love that imagery. Katy did the illustrations for this super awesome animated Yoriyos video which you have to check out here. Also check out more of her work on her site here and she also keeps an interesting blog here. Thanks Katy for sharing!
