Book By Its Cover

5.29.09

This week I am happy to share one of your suggestions, the sketchbooks of Katy Smail. Katy has given us a small peek into her tiny beautiful book filled with her fancy lady illustrations and collaged flowers and birds. She has also let us see some of the inspirations behind the drawings which I was thrilled about. It’s always really interesting to see where an artists ideas came from. Here’s what she had to say about her sketchbook: “My sketchbook is a tiny moleskin that I fill with faces and girls; real and found in forgotten photographs. Then my sketchbooks are scraps of paper; as fragmented and fragile as the stories that I try to tell…”See more of Katy’s work on her site here. Thanks to Katy for sharing!

WOW. I am in shock right now to see my suggestion on Book by its Cover…. hmmm, feeling strangely empowered right about now… ;) More importantly, WOW. Katy’s sketchbooks are gorgeous. I somehow stumbled upon her myspace through some strange virtual paper trail. Guessing from something I read on her website she was fresh out of art school? So glad to see her getting the attention she deserves.
