Luke, along with his partner Angela Conley, founded the very cool artist residency and publisher Islands Fold located in Pender Island British Colombia. They put out tons of small books, prints and t-shirts, that are often collaborations between Luke and the other artists. I’ve posted about one of those books here. I got to meet Luke and Angela at this years New York Art Book Fair too (there’s a picture of them here). Before all this came about- back in 2003 Luke was living in Chung-Li, Taiwan and created this really neat handmade sketchbook which he titled Reading English in Taiwan. Travel sketchbooks are always super exciting- there’s always a different energy about them since the artist is usually so stimulated by their new surroundings. This sketchbook is no exception. I love how Luke integrated found materials into his compositions and added in some mylar pages to draw on. His drawings have a great humor to them too. You can see more of Luke’s work here.
