Book By Its Cover

2.15.08

Thanks to Drawn! I learned about the amazing Russian illustrator Masha Krasnova- Shabaeva. I love her vintage feeling palettes and the subtle paper texture that some of her illustrations have. Her illustrations have appeared in Rolling Stone, Esquire and Elle among other publications. Check out this awesome bathing cap she did. I would totally wear a bathing cap if it looked like this. When Masha sent over her sketchbook I was just blown away. I was thinking- this is a sketchbook? Each page is a thoughtfully composed finished composition. Her drawings are so unusual and interesting. Many of the faces in her drawings are strangely covered- by hairy hatch marks, filled in with colors, or masked. I also love her decisions for color in other limited places. Masha has a website where you can see many more illustrations and artwork. Enjoy the sketchbook!

These are amazing! They make me think of some sort of strange carnival characters. Love it!
