Book By Its Cover

3.6.09

Remember Zeroten from Trouvé. After seeing some of his work in there I had bookmarked his site hoping to get him to share his sketchbooks. He has a lot of sketchbook work on his site I loved so much and luckily he was willing to share his latest. His intense bold colors mixed with folk-ish pencil drawings are a lovely combination. Here’s what he had to say about his work:“These featured pages are taken from my current sketchbook named A’Rebours, whose primary themes are fear, mysticism and people. Mainly drawn from elements or ideas born in dreams or day dreams and produced though various cafes and park benches in London, these early images have become the backbone to a project I’m busy finalizing at the moment.” Thanks Zeroten! I look forward to seeing much much more of your work in the future!

I love his work. The pencil drawings remind me a lot of one of my favorite artists Jockum Nordstrom.

Nice – and nice to see so many pages (I sometimes feel cheated when there are only a few spreads!)

By the way, if you’d like to see some French children’s books, and even other sorts of illustrated books published here (some are translations), drop me a line and let me know what you’d need in terms of photos. You could post whatever you found to your taste…

I Love the Morrissey sketchbook.Morrissey said in interviews back in the day- that he wasn’t going to have sex till a cure for AIDS is found. Wonder how he is doing on that …

I like all the male characters and the use of colour. Also, the words made me smile :)

(1) These notebooks inspire me to use my moleskin more creatively. More paper cutouts! More color!

(2) I was in Flushing, Queens yesterday and there was a children’s book all about guns. I couldn’t read it because it was in Chinese, but each page had about 100 guns on it, very clean photos with a white background, and it said something under each image, I imagine the name of the gun or what it’s used for. But it looked like it was for a baby. I almost bought it, as it was only $3.50! But, anyway, I thought of you just because it was a crazy book!
